Overview

The Library is the main study environments at Loughborough College Group and provides access to books and resources required for all courses offered, as well as access to specialist software and laptops for students to borrow for use on campus.

EBSCO Discovery allows you to access a vast range of electronic resources, eBooks and journals, as well as resources from the Library catalogue, both in College and from home, ensuring that you are always able to access the resources that you need. In addition, the Library catalogue is available on the Liberty portal.

The Library offers the RFID self-service system to ensure that students moving on to Higher Education are confident in accessing resources in a university library environment.

Please ask a member of staff who will be very happy to help you find any book, use a computer, or assist with any other enquiries you may have.

Services

The Libraries provide the following services, regardless of which college you are at:

You can borrow books and a wide range of resources from the Library to support your studies. Use EBSCO Discovery, the Library’s online search engine, to access all of the resources the Library offers, including books, eBooks, eJournals, and items from the Library catalogue. Discovery can be accessed directly from this Helpdesk page. If you are using Discovery from home, simply log in with your College username and password.

You can also use Liberty, the Library Catalogue. From there, you can search for books and eBooks, log in to your Library account, renew your loans, and request items. A link to Liberty is available on this Helpdesk page.

For a full list of databases the College subscribes to, please see the [databases guide](INSERT LINK).

The Library provides self-service laptops that you can borrow for college work anywhere on campus. Laptops can be borrowed during Library opening hours for up to six hours at a time and must remain on site.

There are also a limited number of network PCs available on a first come, first served basis, which include specialised software you might require in your studies.

For full details on how to register, borrow, and return a laptop, please see the [Borrowing Laptops guide](INSERT LINK).

The Library is a dedicated study environment where you can work individually or in groups. It provides a quiet and supportive space to focus on your college work.

To make sure the Library stays a positive place for everyone, please remember:

  • Food is not allowed in the Library. You can bring drinks into the study spaces, but not near the computers.

  • Keep your mobile phone on silent so that others can study without interruptions.

  • Be considerate of the people around you and help maintain a calm, focused atmosphere.

By following these guidelines, you’ll help keep the Library a welcoming study space for all.

You can collect your printing by scanning your student card on any Library printer, using the ‘FollowYou’ system. The default settings are black and white, double-sided, but you can change the settings on your computer before sending your work to print.

At the start of each term, a £5 print credit is added to your College card. If you need more credit, you can top up through Wisepay on your College dashboard.

Printing costs are:

  • 3p per side for black and white printing

  • 15p per side for colour printing

Printers can also be used for scanning documents, which is available free of charge.

The Library team can help you with any questions about books and Library resources, including borrowing, renewing, requesting, and returning. The team can also assist you with printing and scanning, borrowed laptops, and troubleshooting Turnitin assignment submissions.

For general enquiries, please visit the main College reception.
