My Targets: What, Why & How

Your targets are set by you and your tutors, to help you progress. Targets can be set based on the following:

  • Your work (academic)
  • English and Maths
  • Attendance and Punctuality
  • On Trend Skills & behaviours
  • Work experience

This can be found under Student ILPMy Targets on your ILP.

Setting Targets

1. Select Add New to add a target.

2. Complete the Target box with your WOOP target.

3. Select the Review Date for when you want to achieve it.

4. Select a Target Category, asking your tutor if unsure.

5. Select Link to Enrolment, asking your tutor if unsure.

6. Tick Student Agreed.

7. Select Save.

8. TWO targets per semester (1 x Academic and 1 x Personal)

Reviewing Targets

When a target needs reviewing and is past its review date, the status text will turn red.

1. Select Edit on the target you wish to review

2. Change status to Achieved or Not Achieved.

3. If the target has not yet been met, change the status to Reviewed, update the Review Date and complete one of the numbered Review boxes.

4. Select Save.

  4. Plan: I will create a to-do list in my calendar app, prioritise my tasks based on importance, and put my phone away to minimise distractions and stay focused.

What are some examples of academic WOOP targets?

Level 2 BTEC WOOP Target (General Academic Progress)

  1. Wish: I want to improve my assignment grades to at least a Merit level.
  2. Outcome: I want to use more analysis and evaluation in my coursework and be on track for progression to Level 3.
  3. Obstacle: I sometimes leave assignments until the last minute and struggle with referencing.
  4. Plan: I will use a weekly planner to break down tasks and attend one study support session per week to improve my academic writing.

Level 3 BTEC WOOP Target (University Preparation)

  1. Wish: I want to submit a strong UCAS application with a personal statement that reflects my strengths.
  2. Outcome: I will feel proud of my application and confident about getting interviews or offers.
  3. Obstacle: I’m unsure how to structure my personal statement and highlight my achievements.
  4. Plan: I will attend the UCAS workshop and book a one-to-one session with the careers advisor to get feedback.

Communication Skills

  1. Wish: I want to improve my ability to communicate clearly with customers discussing jobs to be completed to improve customer satisfaction.
  2. Outcome: If I improve my communication skills customer satisfaction and feedback will improve.
  3. Obstacle: I struggle with anxiety and get nervous speaking to customers.
  4. Plan: I will work to communicate with one new customer per week and shadow other colleagues to develop my communication skills.

Punctuality Improvement

  1. Wish: I want to improve my punctuality by arriving at work on time for the next 4 weeks and review with manager weekly.
  2. Outcome: If I improve my punctuality I can start work on time and will not have to work over each day or lose money.
  3. Obstacle: I struggle to get up and ready on time in the mornings.
  4. Plan: I will set reminders on my phone and prepare the day the night before to reduce my lateness to zero before the next review.
