Bullying

Bullying is repeated behaviour that hurts one person or a group intentionally. It can be either physically, mentally, or both. It can have a large impact on an individual’s mental health and wellbeing and may take place in person or online.

Examples of bullying include:

  • Name calling
  • Being criticised repeatedly
  • Experiencing violence or aggression
  • Rumours being spread
  • Humiliating or excluding someone

What should I do if I’m being bullied?

Tell a trusted adult – speaking to an adult such as parents, teachers, wellbeing/mental health coordinator etc. It is especially vital to report bullying if there are threats of physical danger and harm such as physical attacks, stalking, threats etc.

Don’t resort to physical violence – you may feel angry and want to defend yourself to a bully, this may result in you getting hurt or into trouble. Find an alternative way to release your anger such as exercise or journalling.

Hold your head high and walk away – this body language sends a message that you aren’t vulnerable and avoids giving the bully the reaction they are looking for.
