Library

Our college library is a place to study for all students, and we have designed spaces for your needs as you study.

The library has a range of group study tables, computers for quick use and printing only, laptops and printers. The library books and materials zoned for curriculum areas are all available here. In addition, there is a large collection of digital resources available via the library’s online catalogue and Discovery database.

The Library offers the RFID self-service system which is a teaching tool to ensure that learners moving on to Higher Education are confident in accessing resources in a university library environment.

Please ask a member of staff who will be very happy to help you find any book, use a computer or assist with any other enquiries you may have.

Accessing College Library Systems

To access all of the library systems and resources please visit the library website at https://library.loucoll.ac.uk/

Study Skills

The Library offers study skills support to all learners at Loughborough College.
This supports learners with:

  • Understanding assignments.
  • Structuring and planning essays.
  • Understanding academic writing expectations.
  • Preparation for exam.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Time management and organising workload.
  • Understanding and preventing plagiarism in work.
  • Harvard referencing.

Support is offered either in whole class tutorials (arranged by the tutor) or on a 1:1 basis as a one-off or as frequently as you wish. Written study skills support is also offered through the library website at: library.loucoll.ac.uk/study-skills

Software and PCs

Some computers are installed with other course-specific software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Solid Works and CAD, so please let the library staff know if you need to access specialist software. Please book a computer with the library staff at the desk. You can book up to one week in advance if you wish. Advanced booking is advisable when you know you will need a PC at a specific time. Please note that access times may be limited during very busy periods, although this is a rare occurrence and you will always have one-hour minimum.

Group Study Room

A group study room is available at times for students to book to use for preparing presentations, and other group work. Bookings are for an hour and require 2 hours notice to ensure fairness for all. Please ask at the library desk for more information.

Silent Study Room

Some students like to work in a quiet space and we provide a room for those who prefer this. The room has five bookable computers as well as study tables. This is the only space in the college to access completely silent independent working, so we ask that all learners and staff respect this rule for the benefit of those around them.

Higher Education Study Room

HE Students have their own study room on the second floor of the library. This pleasant room was renovated in 2019 and has 12 bookable computers, some group study tables and a space for students to plug in their own laptops and devices. We recognise that HE students need to work hard to complete their programmes, and we want to make sure that their study environment is quiet and peaceful.
